Ana Martínez Fernández is an artist from Cantabria, Spain. She studied Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao), as well as Contemporary Art Theory at Goldsmiths College (London). She is also the founder of Pradera, an independent space in which she works with artists in the production of exhibitions and other exchanges. Operating in multiple capacities, Pradera performs its functions autonomously but collaborates and depends on a variety of factors and people that determine the programming of the space and its activities. Her practice, fundamentally sculptural, moves in a field highly informed by written and spoken language, and the gesture-material-image relationship. Her work approaches certain visual and literary references, deepening and exploring the dynamics of attraction towards those references. Her intention is to investigate the gesture of personal and collective intimacy through a practice that makes, repeats, makes, extracts, and enables new associations. For her solo show at new jörg she created two floor-based sculptures that occupy the larger part of the exhibition space.
