Kreizik (Roman Shablevskyi)

Kreizik (Roman Shablevskyi) is a self-taught underground artist from Ivano-Frankivsk who committed suicide in 2015. He graduated from the department of history of the Pedagogical Institute in Drohobych. Punk musician, member and co-founder of several musical collectives, including Stratehichni Spermatozoidy (Strategic Sperm) and Franshyza (Franchise). In his artistic practice, he gravitated towards surreal and dreamlike scenes. Among his works are many drawings that resemble bizarre coloring books, most of which the author left unpainted. Kreizik’s artistic legacy is scattered among the artistic community of Ivano-Frankivsk.

It is a retrospective, a memorial evening for our friends who left us this fall. In general, this year was hard for everyone. There were too many losses. We decided to organize an evening dedicated to memories and remembrance of our friends. We could have called it Parfion 60, or Ihor 35, or Kreizik 41. Why not? Life is unpredictable. I have a work, my self-portrait, where I look like I speak for them: “Where did you go? Why? Why am I alone in the dark? Commentary by Kreizik (Roman Shablievskyi)  during his last exhibition Ч28 in December 2014 According to the curator of the exhibition, Yevhen Filatov, Roman Shablievsky’s exhibition is an attempt to draw attention to the fact that people are dying, so we should try not to postpone meetings and exchange emotions.
