Babi Badalov

Babi Badalov expresses his ideas through visual poetry, art objects, installations and live performances. His work is often dedicated to linguistic explorations researching the limits of language and the borders it imposes upon its users, based on his personal experience of linguistic inconveniences while travelling. Badalov’s visual poetry often takes the form of a diary, created daily through a combination of his linguistic research of manipulated pictorial material, typically exploring larger geopolitical questions. Considering the nomadic life of the artist (as traveller, migrant and refugee), Badalov reflects on his struggles in adapting and integrating into new cultures, and becoming a prisoner of language.

DISPATCHES

2023–2024,
A postcard project by M HKA and VCRC for the Kyiv Biennial 2023-2024

Dispatches is a postcard project organized by M HKA (Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp) and the Visual Culture Research Center for the Kyiv Biennial 2023-2024. For the ”distributed” format of this edition of the biennial, taking place at venues across Ukraine and the EU, we invited twelve artists to each produce a postcard design that can be found at all the venues of the biennial and beyond. It is a modest call to send one’s own dispatches from the front line.
